Privacy statement of the Association of Foreign Banks in Germany

The Association of Foreign Banks in Germany is delighted that you are visiting our website. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and we want you to feel comfortable and safe while visiting our website. We would like to point out that data transmission via the Internet is mostly unsecure at present. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that unauthorized parties may have access to the data.



You can visit the website of  The Association of Foreign Banks in Germany anonymously, without us requiring personal data from you.

Every time a user accesses a page of our website and every time data is accessed this procedure is recorded by us in a log file.

  • browser type / browser version
  • the referrer URL (the site previously visited)
  • IP address
  • date and time
  • recalled page/name of the recalled data file
  • volume of data transmitted
  • notification whether data retrieval was successful

This data is only used for statistical analysis and afterwords the data is deleted. These data will automatically be deleted after 14 days. No other use or disclosure to third parties, beside to the website host for statistical analysis purposes, takes place. The legal basis for processing this personal data is Art. 6 Para. 1 letter f) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679. We have a legitimate interest in processing this data in order to carry out error analyses and to improve our internet presence. If data must be stored for reasons of evidence (e.g. in cases of misuse), they are excluded from deletion until the incident has been finally resolved.


Request for information material and contact

By ordering information material or sending your request, you consent to the electronic processing and storage of the contact data you have provided. This is for the purpose of processing your order or responding to questions and messages. We store your data for six months, unless a longer period is required to process your order or respond to your request or is required by law. We will only pass on your personal data to the shipping company commissioned to deliver the order/invoice if this is necessary. We do not pass on any other personal data to third parties.

Contents and links to external offers from third parties

Our website includes content and links from third party providers. We make every effort to include only content from third parties that use IP addresses solely for the purpose of delivering the content. However, we have no influence on whether third party providers store IP addresses, e.g. for statistical purposes. As soon as you are on the website of third parties, they are responsible for the data protection of their offers within the meaning of Art. 4 No. 7 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679.


Registration for events

Your data will be collected and processed for the purpose of organising the event, communicating in connection with the event and on Association topics. By registering for events, you consent to the electronic processing and storage of the contact data you have provided. A passing on to third parties only takes place for the purpose of the event organizing as far as necessary (e.g. entrance control of the event venue). Your data will be deleted after the event.

Member area

Only registered users from our members have access to the closed member area of the website of  VAB. On request, we will send the access coordinates (user name and password) to the user. Your data is collected and processed for the purpose of checking your access authorization to the member area. With your request for access to the member area, you consent to the electronic processing and storage of the contact data (surname, first name, member institutution, e-mail address) you have provided. Your contact data will be saved to activate your access to the member area. The user receives an arbitrarily generated password from us. You can reset your password by clicking the "forgot password" and enter a new password yourself. This is generally recommended. The deactivation of your member access code can be requested at any time. Please send a message stating your name and e-mail address to

Your right to object, Art. 21 DSGVO

You have the right to object on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to  processing of personal data concerning you which is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e) DSGVO (data processing in the public interest) and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f) DSGVO (data processing based of a legitimate interest).

If you object, we will no longer process your personal data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing, which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves to assert, exercise or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
